Cap Karma

This blog is set up for the cap making community of ladies at the San Francisco International Airport. The caps are for chemo patients and are donated to a local hospital. The hand made caps (knitted or crocheted) are a token of our prayers and well wishes for the recipient.

Oblique Hat #2

Here's another Oblique Hat. This one shows the diagonal lines in the pattern better than the first hat. This hat isn't perfect though. I ran out of blue yarn before I got to the decrease. So I continued with the red, but was also running short on that too. So I shortened the decrease by skipping many of the knit rounds, which is why the hat is more "flat" topped than the first Oblique Hat.

Pattern can be found here:

Woohoo! We've knitted 60 caps this winter season!!! :-) You can see them all on Flickr, just click on the flickr badge in the sidebar...

Green Cable Hat #2

This is my second cable hat. It's suppose to look like rows of x and o. The designer, Kody May, calls this the kisses and hugs hat. You can find the link to the pattern below. I modified her pattern to use circular needles so I would not have to do any seaming. My hat is small - more of a youth size than adult, but if you'd like to make a larger hat, then cast on additional stitches in multiples of 12 and work pattern to desired length. http://kodymayknits.blogspot.com/2006/10/kisses-and-hugs-cabled-hat.html

Knitting hats with 2 circular needles

It was wonderful to finally meet everyone today, and to place a name with a face.

For those of you who were interested, here's the link for how to knit in the round using 2 circular needles: http://www.az.com/~andrade/knit/twocirculars.html
The site has great step-by-step instructions with photos...

And here's a great site with lots of knitting videos. Here's the page with videos on how to do various types of cast ons: http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/index.php
I like to use the cable cast on method.

Blue & White hats

I've been so busy, I hadn't gotten around to posting my hats until now. Right now I'm working on a 2 color hat. I am finding it a challenge to keep the yarn from getting tangled up every time I switch colors every 2 stitches. So it's been slow going with this hat. It's a new technique for me; Unlike the Striped Slip Stitch Hat where you work one color on each round, the current hat I'm working on uses both colors in each round. I finally figured out that I could hold one yarn in my right hand and the other yarn in my left hand. It's kinda awkward, but I'm slowly getting used to it ... and I think this is better than switching the colors on my right hand every 2 stitches.

Pastels and Grey

Here's another finished cap. I'm trying to use up some of left over odds and ends =) I know you can't really see all the different pastel colors in the picture, but I think it compliments the grey nicely.

Doggie Sweater

I realize this isn't a cap but it's definitely a share worthy project from one of our members - Sarah Luu.

PS Sarah: people are interested in the pattern for your last cap.
